Peace Like A River

It was a wide river, mistakable for a lake or even an ocean unless you'd been wading and knew its current. Somehow I'd crossed it... Now I saw the stream regrouped below, flowing on through what might've been vineyards, pastures, orhards... It flowed between and alongside the rivers of people; from here it was no more than a silver wire winding toward the city. - Leif Enger, Peace Like A River

Equal opportunity abductions

From the AP:

Taliban militants claimed they shot and killed one South Korean hostage on Wednesday while a group of abductees was freed and taken to a U.S. military base, officials said.

Purported Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi claimed that one of the hostages had been shot and killed around 4 p.m. (7:30 a.m. EDT), and a police official who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the situation said militants told him the hostage was sick and couldn't walk and was therefore shot.

Some of the 23 Korean hostages, meanwhile, had been freed and were taken to a U.S. base in Ghazni, two Western officials said who asked not to be identified. The officials did not know how many had been freed. The South Korean news agency Yonhap said eight Koreans had been freed.

For those who think terrorism is a response to something President Bush does, or did, let's review past history.

In March 2006, four Macedonians were taken and beheaded.

In April 2006, an engineer from India was beheaded.

In October 2006, a Muslim journalist from London was taken, and released.

In March 2007, and Italian journalist was abducted. He was releaased, but his Afghan driver was beheaded.

In April 2007, two French aid workers were abducted, and later released.

Earlier this month, two Germans were abducted.

The Taliban, and the radical version of Islam they preach, don't care who you are, or where you're from. Murder is their answer for those who oppose them.
